Uniform Fetish Anthology Blog Tour

Welcome to the Uniform Fetish Blog Tour! Thank you for helping all of the authors to celebrate this newest Anthology from Evernight Publishing. I was truly flabbergasted to find out my story was accepted to be a part of this amazing collection of authors, and their stories. If you haven’t yet gotten around to reading my story in the anthology, or even if you have, here’s a little insider information on my hero…

Elegant young handsome man. Studio fashion portrait.
Name:  Douglas Burrows
Job:  FBI Special Agent
Stats:
– 38 years old
– Short sandy brown hair
– Grey eyes
– 6′ 2″
– 234lbs
– 15 years with the Bureau

The following interview with Special Agent Douglas Burrows
takes place at an undisclosed, secure location.

Moira:  Thank you for taking the time out of what I’m sure is a very hectic schedule to chat with me today Special Agent Burrows.
Douglas:  The pleasure is mine, but please call me Douglas.

Douglas it is then. Can you tell my readers a little about yourself? Perhaps why you got into the FBI, and what you might hope to achieve with the work you’re doing with them?
Well, I’ve been with the Bureau for almost fifteen years now. For a time in my early twenties I have to admit to being adrift in life. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with myself. On a whim I took a criminology class in college, I needed the credits, and it appeared interesting. It ended up drawing me in, and making me want to learn more. I could have become a police officer, but I didn’t think I’d be happy staying in one place all the time so I explored my options, and ended up applying to the Bureau. My goals are relatively simple actually. Do everything within my power as a representative for the laws of our country to keep good, honest, and innocent individuals safe from those that prey on what may be considered a weaker person. It doesn’t matter to me what their crime is. If they are breaking the law, and hurting someone in the process I’m going to do my damnedest to see they are brought to justice, and pay the steepest penalty we can manage within the system.

With the capture, and hopefully extended jail time for the man you recently apprehended, what are your immediate plans?
As you know I got to meet, and spend some time with a very special lady. We got to know one another somewhat in an extremely stressful situation so now we’re going to go about getting to know one another better, and at a slightly more regular pace. Whatever “regular” actually means.
(looks over his shoulder and winks at the woman he’s discussing)

I’m sure you’re both happy for the downtime. I have a couple of questions here from my readers if you have the time to answer them?
(adjusts his suit jacket, and gives a nod)
Absolutely, shoot.

Liz C. would like to know, what was your “worst stake-out location”?
My personal worst stake-out location has to be at the dump.

You can’t leave it there! You absolutely have to explain this to all of us.
(tips his head back, and laughs)
We had a suspect in a string of robberies whose day job was working one of the bulldozers at the dump. My partner and I had the pleasure of sitting on a hill out in the blazing sun for days watching him. It also happened to be one of the worst heatwaves the area we were in had ever had. We were out there every day he was on shift logging his movements, and who came round to chat with him all private like next to his machine. The truly horrifying part of it all was the fact the wind would shift around lunchtime to blow that stench right at us.

Oh lordy that sounds nasty! I think we need to get to the next question, so here goes. Evita would like to know, and I’m paraphrasing slightly, “how do [agents] handle being away from family for long periods of time, especially if married and with kids”?
I personally don’t have experience with this yet, so I’m in no way an expert on the subject. But from what I’ve heard discussed by other agents in a situation where they have a family it’s just like any other job that takes someone out of town. You talk on the phone when you can, or Skype I suppose would be much more popular these days. In our line of work we’re never sure where we’re going, or for how long so it does take a toll. A colleague told me once that when she is home during the down time her entire focus is on her family. Anything to do with the job that isn’t an immediate or pressing concern is put on the back burner. Her husband, and boys both know her job is hard both mentally and physically. But they also know that when she’s home they are getting all of her. Her attention isn’t split between them, and the job. Everything is focused on them, and them alone.

Sounds like a balancing act of sorts. I suppose like any marriage with, or without travel of this sort it’s all about communication, and making the time spent together count.
(he smiles)
In my line of work any relationship at all from dating to marriage can take a hit without open lines of communication.

Thank you again to Special Agent Burrows for taking the time to talk with me. It was a true pleasure to have him here. Now let’s take a look at the story…

Magdelaine “Maggie” Dubois has found herself at the wrong place at the worst possible time. When a man is killed before her she only has one viable option. Go to the police. What she never expected in the aftermath of complete terror, and fear was to meet a man who awoke something so sexually primal within her.

Special Agent Douglas Burrows of the FBI is in the business of putting those breaking laws behind bars. He’s questioned dozens of witnesses over the years, and held more than a few hands. None of them have ever affected him quite like she does with nothing more than a look.

Douglas will do whatever is necessary to protect Maggie. While watching over her is his sworn duty, his need for the passionate witness is all together very personal.

And to close this post out, a look between the pages just for you…

Five hours later a hotel employee was opening the door to the room the FBI had secured for her. Special Agent Burrows was right behind Maggie. He thanked the man and presumably gave him a tip before sending him on his way. Stopping in the middle of the room she listened as he shut and locked the door.

She was nervous all of a sudden and didn’t know why. No, actually she did. She was alone in a hotel room where no one knew her to be with the sexiest man she’d ever met. And he was only there to protect her.

Which was really a downer when she thought about it. Kicking off her shoes she wiggled her toes in the high end carpet, and took a long look around. “The FBI must have quite the budget,” she commented.

His soft laugh did fantastic things to her body. “Not really. We get great deals on rooms though, so we can splurge a little as long as it qualifies as official business. Besides, after the night you’ve had, a little luxury wasn’t amiss.”

He had a point there. Crouching she collected her shoes and then moved to check the space out a little better. The bedroom was in a separate room off the sitting area they were currently standing in. She peeked in to take in the king sized bed and the open doorway to the side. Most likely the bathroom. One bed, one bathroom, well this was going to be interesting.

Douglas moved around her and set on the end of the bed the bag he’d sent a female officer to collect from her home. “Why don’t you try and get some sleep? I’ll be in the outer room the entire time if you need me,” he said.

All Maggie could do was nod. She didn’t know what to say. She knew what she’d like to say, but she wasn’t quite that brazen. Though with him she truly wished she was. “Douglas,” she said before he fully closed the sliding doors between the two rooms.

“Yeah?”

“Thank you. For doing this. I know it’s an imposition, and must be tough on your loved ones, so thank you.” Subtle, Maggie, real subtle.

His smile said he knew exactly what she was digging for. “Well since it’s only my retired parents that might possibly be affected by this, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Get some sleep, Maggie.”

“Right.”

Once the doors were shut she let out a low groan, and smacked her forehead with a fist. “Dumb, dumb, dumb,” she muttered. “Why didn’t you just ask him if he was available, Mags? That you want to rip that too perfectly starched shirt off his body, and do nasty things to him. Un-fucking-believable.” Letting out another groan she headed for the bathroom. Maybe a hot shower would clear out some of the cobwebs making her an idiot.

Totally shocked!

Found out on Friday that I was in two, TWO, categories for the 2nd Annual Evernight Readers’ Choice Awards. I’m so excited! Forever Kind of Love was nominated in the Humor category, and Dangerous Lines was nominated in the Suspense category. I was hopeful that maybe one of my books might make the cut, but to get two books up there is making me seriously giddy.

Green Smiley

I don’t think I stopped grinning the entire night, lol! It’s just, wow. I’m completely awed, and stunned that my readers thought so much of my books to nominate them. I can’t do this job without their support, but to see it showcased so amazingly is heart warming to say the least. It definitely makes the long nights of arguing with my characters to get a scene just right, working and reworking a particular patch of dialogue, and of course the terror of seeing what the editor has done to fix my gaffes all worth it.

All I can say is thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I have amazing readers, and I love you all to bits for your vote of confidence in my works. You guys rock, and make me want to write even more for you to have.

But not right off, I have to do a few boring things first like grocery shopping and such things. Then I’ll get to work on some more of that words to page. I’ve already started on C&M Security book 6 (the prequel) that stars Robyn and Grant. I’ve also started a paranormal story too. Not exactly sure where that one is going, but it’s apparently quite happy to lead me on a merry little trail as I meander along with it. It popped into my head, and now it’s not letting go. Sucky thing though is I’m only getting little bursts, bits and pieces really, to add. I think the characters are still trying to figure out where it’s all going to go so they’re only giving up what’s needed to keep it fresh in my head. We shall see.

For now I’m off to get busy with a few things. Have a fantastic weekend – and don’t forget to VOTE! Click any of the Readers’ Choice Awards images in the right hand bar of items and you’ll be taken right to the voting form. ~ Moira

Book 5’s been accepted!

So very happy to say that Evernight Publishing accepted book 5 of the C&M Security series on Monday. I just signed the contracts so now that it’s a done deal I can share the wonderful news. This book is the last in the current time line of the series for a short while, as book 6 will be a prequel to give some more details of where the C&M crew all started out from. Should be a blast!

Accepted grunge stamp

Not sure when I’ll be starting book 6 though. I have something else, very undefined though, rattling around in my head. I may need to poke at that a little first and see where it leads. Or at least maybe clear it out of my head so I can focus on the next instalment of the series at hand. I have the premise already worked out in my head for book 6, just haven’t yet heard the characters put in anything. Definitely know what needs to go into it though so that’s a plus. Lot’s of background of course, more in depth knowledge about each of the characters already introduced, and then meeting some of those that may yet have their own book down the line. Haven’t decided yet if I plan to do more with the C&M series after this prequel. I think it’s all up in the air until I figure out what all this next book will reveal about the “world” they live in.

For now though, I’m going to have a celebratory bevvie, watch a movie, and chill out for the evening. I’ve got nothing much planned except for some relaxation. Who knows, might shake something loose that will be useful. Until next time folks ~ Moira

As well, I’ve been redoing my site so some of the items you may have previously seen have been moved a little. Don’t worry! It’s all still there. Now, I’m off to keep writing on C&M book 5, it’s progressing very well today if I do say so myself. Things are beginning to head towards a full boil for the characters – basically this means they are about to find themselves in deep shit. Should be lots of fun to see how they figure to get themselves out of the mess I plan to toss them into.

Have a great week everyone! ~ Moira

* * * * * * * * * * *

This is from my new W.I.P. – book 5 of the C&M Security series, and completely unedited – please excuse any errors:

A knock on his office door had his head jolting up. Calling out for whoever it was to come in Zachary ensured nothing of his current project was visible.

“Hey, sorry to bother you,” Hank Rogers said as he came into his office. “But I know you wanted this as soon as I got it.”

Ah, right, his side project. Sitting up Zach leaned forward in his seat while Hank took one of his guest chairs. “So, what did you find?”

Hank looked extremely uncomfortable as he passed over the USB. “Don’t look at any of this on the work computers. When I got close, and started to realize what I was seeing, I moved over to my laptop. When I was done I erased everything, every last scrap, and crumb. Do the same, Zachary. This shit could get people killed, and I’d rather not have that happen to you, me, or to her.”

Her. The woman that had burrowed into his every thought, fantasy, and even into his dreams each night. Chandra Devons. Alluring, mysterious, and a contradiction of details. She was his latest focus, mainly because while they’d talked a lot, it was never about anything important. She’d given him enough about her past that he felt she was sharing, but never too much. Any time he’d tried to find out about her time before C&M she’d deftly, and too easily deflected the conversation a different direction.

Which had raised an internal alarm for him. And promptly led him to try and figure out who she was. Which in turn had run him into a gigantic, impenetrable road block. That was where Hank came into the picture. Hank was a former hacker, hired on by the FBI to keep other hackers out, and to do the things most of the agents couldn’t even dream of. Sifting through thousands of pieces of information to find one little lead.

Hank was very good at his job, unless he went up against another C&M employee. But that was an entirely different story, and one that Zach actually found pretty amusing.

“What’s on here?” he asked, lifting his violet gaze to meet Hank’s nearly black one.

“All I can tell you here, is it’s secrets buried under secrets, wrapped up in a mess of international proportions.”

Damn, not what Zach needed to hear to get his curiosity to lay off. All it did was make him want to bolt out of the building, race home, and use his personal laptop to find out what Hank had found.

“Sorry, I know it’s not what you wanted to hear. But let me tell you this,” Hank said as he stood and moved to the door. “When you are done, destroy it all. Leave nothing behind, and burn that fucking USB key. It’s beyond classified. So when you open the files, make sure you are not connected to the Internet. If this gets out, we’re all dead.”

Question:  What happens next in the above scene?

A new month’s upon us

autumn in the forestAnd the weather is starting to shift. Not for the better either. Oh well, such is life when you life in a place that can have all four seasons in a single day. No, not a myth, reality. I love Fall, the colors, the leaves you crunch through wherever you walk, and that particular smell to the air as it gets a little crisper. Unfortunately it’s what comes after I could seriously do without.

Oh well. At least the leaves are pretty for a time. Right?

As another month is now nothing more than a smudge in the rear view, there are some good (great even) things coming up. Top of the list is of course Evernight’s big Birthday Bash plans. First the Facebook party tomorrow, then a blog hop through everyone’s sites, plus all the goodies, and prizes that will come of everything that is coming up. It should be a fantastic couple of months ahead. Hopefully enough to get my mind off of the weather. Here’s hoping!

Since I have a tonne of writing I need to play catch up on, I shall leave you with a little Wet Wednesday treat. May you enjoy my offerings this week. ~ Moira

Slow going Sunday

Himbeer-Limetten-CocktailHad a busy day yesterday that totally threw my whole “plan” off for the day. Went to an event with a co-worker, and had a fantastic time, but it definitely mucked up my writing plans for yesterday. Though I will say, they had some fantastic beverage options – and the food was pretty damn good too. Then I get home to a wonderful reminder of something coming up shortly here in October. What would that be, Moira? Ah, let me tell you.

First up on October 2, is an Evernight Publishing Facebook party from 6pm until 10pm (EST). This is the kick off event for Evernight’s 4th Birthday celebration. The graphic at the bottom of this post contains a link, so feel free to click on it if you’re interested in joining up. It’s a chance to meet a bunch of the authors, and win a lot of great prizes. The Book Enthusiast is handling the event, and from the sounds of things there will be lots of fun going on.

Next on the list is a huge Birthday Blog Hop with the Evernight authors. This runs from October 3 until October 13. A great opportunity for readers to get to know some new authors, find out about their books, and to also win some fantastic prizes. Oh, but it doesn’t stop there! No, no. There are a bunch more things to follow – scheduling hasn’t yet been fully determined as of yet, but stay tuned for posts to learn about it all. What I do know, and can share, is that All Romance eBooks will be having some huge sales of Evernight author’s books during this time, and after. There will also be the ARe October Monster Giveaway during which participants can win a free gift at time of checkout – including some gifts from the Evernight authors.

Basically October will be a wild ride of fun with the Evernight family. Between all the parties, the giveaways, the blog hops, and numerous other happenings this should be a blast. The fact that it all leads up to my favorite holiday of the year, Halloween, is a definite plus. I am a huge fan of going all out, above and beyond, and totally wild for Halloween. My parents used to dread this time of year knowing I’d be out in the yard doing prep work for at least two weeks leading up to the big night so I could terrorize the neighborhood. Ahh, good times.

Now, since I was off looking for a little inspiration, I figured I’d share it here with you as well. ~ Moira

Fun ahead

Happy Sunday everyone, let’s start this post off with a little man candy shall we? I think we shall.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As the title implies there is good stuff coming. No date yet on the C&M Security 3 release, but that’s okay, I have plenty of things to keep me busy. First on the list is an Evernight event. Happening this Thursday, September 18th on Facebook, everyone is welcome to come and visit. The event goes from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm EST. I have a shared slot from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm EST that I will be sharing with a fellow Evernight author, Ms. April Zyon. So, if you’re on Facebook, and are interested in joining in the fun, maybe meeting some new authors you are very welcome to join the event. Click the image below to be taken to the page to sign up to go to the event.

As we roll into October we have a number of interesting things popping up. Including Evernight’s 4th Birthday Celebration. This will be another Facebook party (more info to follow as we receive it) to kick things off. On October 2 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm EST is an author take over event, with lots of great prizes, and who knows what else!

Well, that’s all I have for tonight. I’m off to delve into my refrigerator, and see what might be in there that involves zero cooking for dinner tonight. Hope you all have a great evening ~ Moira

Murky Monday

Somebody sure done gone, and pissed off Mother Nature. Or she’s got a big ol’ bee in her bonnet. Cause here we are, in SEPTEMBER no less, and it’s freakin’ snowing! Not only that, but there’s a “Snowfall Warning” in place. Not even shitting you. Case in point, the image below is from my walk home & a couple of the trees that line the Downtown Core. That white stuff on the tree, ground, benches, and floating past in the image – that’s snow folks. SNOW!

Calgary,-AB-08.09.2014

As an extra bonus, because apparently someone has sinned against Mother Nature, we’re expecting even more all the way into Wednesday. Three days of this sticky, wet, white crap. Ugh! Nasty! On the plus side – literally – we’re supposed to shoot back up into the 20’s by next Monday (that’s the mid 60’s for you Fahrenheit folks) – a nice steady climb out of the trenches in a manner of speaking.

Thankfully I had no plans other than to sit and write tonight, maybe watch a couple shows on TV. This convinced me I chose wisely. And I do need to take one last lookie-loo at my Dangerous Lines book. My publisher sent it to me since I had a couple of odd changes on the last round of edits. Mainly things I needed to change to keep in alignment with the next book in the series and what all will be happening in there. One more read through and I should have it back to them tonight at some point.

Well, that’s it. So from the suddenly chilly, and very white city of Calgary, I bid you a good night. ~ Moira *brrrr*

PS – That little place, the Luxor, in the image – great little Egyptian place. Pretty great food, amazing sweets and goodies.

Edits are completed

C&M Security book 3, Dangerous Lines, has been officially through round 2 of the editing process and is now back in the hands of my publisher. This also means that the excerpt is now up on the Dangerous Lines page for you to read.

It was a pretty quick run through, thanks to my amazing editor, Laurie Temple. The woman is great and I can’t ever thank her enough. I think she loves these characters nearly as much as I do. A good thing, and very helpful to the editing process. That and the fact she’s been my editor since day one – I got super lucky in having her assigned my books to be completely honest.

Now I can focus on writing book 5 of the series, something I’ve been a little lax on of late. Too much crap at the day job to get my mind relaxed enough to write. A sad, sad state of affairs really. But I have the rest of the weekend now, to write and plot my face off. Something I definitely need to do with these characters. It’s a different flow to book 5 than the previous ones, so I have to remain quite focused on the “end game” as they say. Since I started at the ending, I can’t have anything go awry during the “catch up” phase of the book/story line. Otherwise I’ll have to rewrite a bunch of things, all of which I really don’t want to do. So, focus is the name of the game.

SunnyPoppies

Oh, shiny! Ha! Just kidding. I think I’ll throw on a movie, settle into the zone, and get a few thousand words out on it by the time Monday rolls around. Although, the fact the weather is fantastic is definitely making it hard to stick to my guns on that one. It’s so sunny, and nice out there. Argh! What’s a writer to do? Focus. Gotta focus.

Well, I’m off to focus on the sunny weather…uh, my story and plot line. Have a great weekend ~ Moira
