Pulled in all directions

RedTulip_106622021_XSHello everyone, long time no post. I know, I know – I’m terrible at this most days. But since I had a couple minutes before I need to head out to meet a friend for lunch I figured, why not? The day is sunny, warm and getting warmer. Only bad thing is my allergies. Good gravy! Only downside to spring in my book is all the random sneezes that come from out of the blue and scare the bejeesus out of everyone around me. Although, I will admit, that part is kinda funny. I am not a dainty sneezer if you hadn’t guessed.

Lot’s on the go today, none of it writing though. I have lunch with one friend, coffee with another this afternoon and then I’m showing friend number two around town. She’s thinking about moving here for work and wants to get a lay of the land before she makes the call. Then I’m meeting up with a couple co-workers for dinner before coming home to collapse. Tomorrow’s a loose schedule with my friend from out of town, depends on what she wants to do but again pretty much no time for writing unless I’m up at the crack of dawn. Not being a morning person that sort of thought really makes me shudder.

Cup of coffee with notebook on deskI’m hopeful dinner tonight doesn’t go too long and then I can get in a couple hours. And if I’m even luckier I can talk my outta town buddy into doing a few things late morning, early afternoon. If it all works out then it’ll give me several hours to get some work in. Characters are talking to me which is a great thing. That means there will be progress. Jotted down a couple notes for what they’re talking about to use later.

Well, that’s about it folks. I’ve gotta get a move on or I’m going to be late. Have a fabulous day ~ Moira

Back on track

This past week at the day job has been, in one word, hellish. To keep it short we’ll just say we’ve been dealing with a lot over the last three months that culminated into the final push last week. So much to do in a very little amount of time. We did it, but we’re all feeling it in various aching muscles and pure exhaustion. Too many long hours with too many projects to try and fit into those hours. It left very little time for anything else.

OrangeDaisy_106231315_XSIncluding writing. Sadly I got absolutely none done the last week, the body and brain was too tired to do more than put one foot in front of the other. Got some done this weekend which was a relief. And with things starting to settle down this coming week I should have a chance to do even more. Since we hadn’t planned for things to be this disruptive at the day job not a one of us had figured we’d need to alter how we were doing things. Boy were we wrong. Here’s hoping we get it under control sooner than later.

In better news is the fact it’s actually spring around here. The sun is shining which led me to cleaning my windows. I’m now blinded – totally – from the light coming through. Should’ve left a few streaks I’m thinking, lol! Did a little spring cleaning yesterday as well, mainly because I had to finish finding the various items I’ll need for the most dreaded time of year – tax season. But I know have them all (I hope) in hand so I can do that once I receive the last piece in the mail that I require and get that off my list of things to do.

In the meantime – writing, writing and more writing. So I’m off to go dash through the shower and get back to it while the ideas are still churning. Have a great night ~ Moira

The aftermath…

Fotolia_80726222_XSWell, thank goodness that’s over, ha! Actually I had a pretty great Christmas with the family, and obviously survived. Though it was by the skin of my teeth I’ll admit. Hopefully everyone was able to enjoy some time off, sleep in, and maybe relax a little. I was lucky and got plenty of downtime.

The day prior to leaving for the gathering of the familial sorts I was at work, with a sick salesman. He had a cold, and I thought I’d dodged a bullet with that but really I should have known better. Boxing Day the cold I’d managed to hold off until that moment kicked in full force. Stuffy head, runny nose, hacking, wheezing, the whole nine yards. Yup, fucker got me sick. On the plus side I managed to not give it to anyone in my family so that’s a blessing, and I am on the road to recovery. Thank you modern medicine – I don’t utilize you all that much, but when a killer cold kicks my ass I am ever so grateful you are there. That and the pharmacy guy who, once he finished snickering (yeah, I saw you) helped me narrow down what I needed to kick this thing to the curb.

Didn’t get any writing done as of yet. A head full of cotton is not exactly what I would call helpful to the creative process. The muse doesn’t like my coughing or something, who knows. Not that I could have concentrated much, I was more concerned with ensuring the box of Kleenex never ran out. But I still have six days off work that I can hopefully put to good use and get some things, if not 100% done, much closer to completion. I’d be a much happier camper if I had several things off the writing plate and into my publishers hands. So too would my readers I’m thinking, lol!

Today is for unpacking, laundry, and generally getting myself sorted out. If the head-fog clears out a little more I will get some writing in before the next dose of fabulous medication is needed to hold the sniffling, sneezing, hacking, and wheezing at bay. But if not I am not overly concerned. I have a few notes of things jotted down for where various works will be going to so when I do finally get to writing I have a game plan. The muse did surface long enough over the last few days to do that much. Therefore we have a plan of action and attack for the writing.

I think that’s it currently. No big plans for New Years, not that it’s ever really been my thing, so likely it will be writing and watching the various parties across the country as they go down. Well, that’s it for the moment. Hope everyone has a great New Years whatever your plans are. ~ Moira

Time to prepare

preparing for christmas with gift box and ribbons‘Tis the season for chaos, which means it’s time to figure out what I’m doing before I start running around like a chicken without a head. Not a pretty sight. I have my shopping lists – short this year since I bought lots online, but there are still a few things I have to purchase in store. I have done some shopping to date … unfortunately there is more yet to do. *sigh*

On top of that I have to keep my muse, fickle bitch, in line. She’s got me jumping between three stories, one being the next chapter in the Living Victorious series, and two others that are totally different. But I’m staying mum on them for the time being, at least until she gets through her “mood”. If I talk about them too much she’ll lose interest and then start this crap all over again a few months down the road.

In other news, because I’ve had enough talk about that muse of mine, I’ve got my tickets booked to go see the family persons over Christmas. And I have my holiday schedule which means several days of uninterrupted writing before having to head back to the day gig. I’m rather happy about that, my hope is to pump out at least two of these stories and get them submitted by or just after the New Year. Fingers crossed!

Other than that life is good, our weather isn’t too bad considering it’s the middle of December and we’ve only had a couple minor blizzards that really didn’t do much. Which I’m okay with, means no snow to slog through to and from work. And on that note I’d better get to some of that writing I mentioned earlier. Lots to do ~ Moira

Scorcher of a day

Sunshade

Well we are being treated to another day of hot temperatures, bright blue skies, but with some mild relief in a halfway decent breeze I can only hope holds out for the duration of the day. Which would be even more enjoyable if I could get out to enjoy it, but really need to get some writing done. Must write!

To that end I am attempting to work around a wordage road block my muse seems to have run up against. Nothing major, just a little bit of stumbling around to get the right emotions out into words. I’m also working on another, upcoming scene at the same time which seems to be helping whenever I get sluggish in the previous scene. Helps to push me forward by giving me something else to focus on, at least temporarily. It worked yesterday, here’s hoping it works again today.

Other than that I will be attempting to not melt. I probably should have picked a writing chair that wasn’t covered in leather. I keep having visions of my melted form sliding off the chair into a puddle on the floor. Yes I watched cartoons as a child if you hadn’t guessed from that particular description, lol!

Hope everyone is staying cool if where you are is hot, or staying warm if it’s cold. Have yourself a great Sunday ~ Moira

Making the brain have to work

Happy Saturday all! Been a pretty good day so far minus a small incident with a tap that led to a much more thorough cleaning of my kitchen than was allotted for the day. But that’s fine, it would have had to happen eventually, and I got my shower out of the way all at the same time lol! Well, not quite.

The small British kitten sleeps

With coffee in hand today I’m working on finishing up my edits for Drakon’s Prize out of the Bad Alpha anthology. The majority I got through quickly, and easily with only one hiccup so far. Had to resort to sending off a note to the editor for some clarification since my brain couldn’t quite figure out what she meant. I hate bothering them but this one just couldn’t be resolved by my poor little brain. Once I have her answer back I will finish up, and shoot it back to EP for round two.

Once I’m done edits then I will be swinging over to work on book two of Living Victorious for a while. Though I think I may sneak in a nap. I did not sleep well last night. My neighbors and I will be having words of a rather harsh sort soon if they don’t get their acts together. I truly couldn’t care less that they work on different shifts than I do, usually I can sleep through anything – brass band in the bedroom, cop cars popping wheelies on the street, or whatever. One of the few things I can’t sleep through is annoying laughs. Whether it be the sort like Janice off of “Friends”, or someone that sounds like a braying donkey, there is a level of laugh that is abrasive in the way fingernails down a chalkboard is. They had such an individual over last evening braying away in the wee hours of the morning waking me up. Had I not been happily ensconced in my bed enjoy the rain dampened air coming through my window I likely would have wandered over to have a “talk” with them. Lucky I didn’t feel like unrolling from my blankie.

So a small nap is on the schedule before I have to figure out what I’m doing for dinner. I’m thinking of maybe a little East Indian. I’m in the mood for some good Tandoori chicken, and there’s a place not that far from me that serves some of the best. And now I’m hungry. Okay, so a snack, and then a nap. Better stop writing this post before I talk myself into something else! Have a great day, and a fantastic weekend ~ Moira

Windy Wednesday

Young Cute Man Taking Shower In BathroomHappy Hump Day everyone. As the title suggests, we had ourselves a very breezy day here in the city. But that’s not all I have to share – it was generally a very weird day. It likely has everything to do with the sleep that I didn’t get last night, but I had the damnedest time trying to remember what day it was. On top of that the weirdo count went through the roof at work. No, not just talking about my co-workers – we don’t count them since they are there every day – I mean the other weirdos. The ones that wander in off the street, or call with no clear reason as to why they are calling. It’s like they want to “chat” or some silly thing. I don’t have time for “chatting” during the day. I barely have time for what I have to get done during the day.

But it is over, thank goodness. Now I can spend my evening relaxing, watching some TV, and working on my second round of edits for Dangerous Reactions, C&M Security 6. I actually have the majority done but my editor found a couple other issues that I need to clean up. Nothing major thankfully, but they are making me think. Not a good plan for tonight so I may need to wait until the brain is functioning better. I’d really hate to write myself into an even worse corner my editor has to get me out of, lol!

What else is there to talk about? Oh, yes! Coming May 21, 2015 (that’s a Thursday if you were wondering) Evernight Publishing is having a Facebook Event – Summer’s Kick-Off Event to be exact. If you’re interested in joining feel free. There will be lots of authors, lots of prizes, and who knows what mayhem might ensue. You can join by clicking here – this will take you to the Facebook Event page, and click the “join” button.

Well that’s it for now. I may, or may not have more news later – but for now I must remain quiet. I know, I’m evil even mentioning it, but that is life. Until later everyone ~ Moira

Hello again Friday

WeekendHow is it that the week takes so long to be over, and yet a weekend goes by in the blink of an eye? Really doesn’t seem fair that the worst portion is so dragged out. But another one has finally bit the dust, and the weekend is before us once more. Not entirely sure what I will get up to, but there will be writing.

My current WIP is going well. I’m at the point of starting to wind it down but still need to have something crop up to push into, and follow through to the next planned book. While I have these loosely planned out I’m also letting the characters pull the story where it needs to go since they’d only steamroller me if I didn’t. They can be quite pushy when they want to be.

Other news is that I’m waiting on second round of edits for C&M Security 6, Dangerous Reactions. Quite excited to get this book out and into the hands of my readers. As it’s the last one in the series, at least for the moment, I know they’ve been waiting a while for it to arrive. It’s also a huge closure book for one particular plot line that’s been running through a couple of the books to this point. It’s other task is to answer more questions about the series by giving a look back before C&M was set up, and uncovering the mystery that is Robyn Matthews – the “M” in C&M Security. Hopefully it’s a hit with everyone that’s read the series up to this point. Fingers crossed!

What else is there to share? Oh, yes. I have another story coming out in an anthology. It will be my first paranormal story, and was a blast to write. Date of release isn’t yet decided as they are still accepting submissions to it so you’ll have to wait on news about that until toward the end of May. Best guess is an August release based on how the last one worked once the date of cut off came around. But it is a rough guess only.

Well I think that might be it. I am off to finish laundry, and then get some rest. Tomorrow will be a day full of writing. Have a fantastic weekend ~ Moira

The week is finally over

loadingSo happy to say it’s over. It was much too long, thankfully my co-worker will be back next week to take off some of the stress. I’ve also made the decision she is never, ever allowed to go away again. Ever. I doubt it will fly with anyone, but damn it! LOL!

The sun is beginning to set as I contemplate what to work on tonight writing wise. With all my household chores done, thank you very much, I won’t have anything to distract me this weekend. So writing is on the agenda. I have numerous stories in semi-stages of completion that I really need to get on. Some closer than others to being completed, others in their infancy. If only my muse would focus.

I have a new series planned, won’t say much on it since I’m still working on the back stories of the characters, and a lot of the other stuff makes an author’s head spin like the girl in the Exorcist. It’s definitely making mine attempt it from time to time. But such is the life we have chosen to bring the voices in our heads out into the public eye.

I think that’s it for tonight. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. Sleep late, be a little lazy, and enjoy it. ~ Moira

Ahhh, Friday!

Friday word text colorful fireworksSo, so, so glad it’s Friday and therefore the weekend. It has been one hell of a week. Between inventory at work, and having to update the system we use so it isn’t such a mess (and a half) to just plain weird people, it’s been a bit of a chore. But now that it’s over I can focus on things I couldn’t during the week when too many “real life” issues yanked me one way or another.

Writing. I’m getting into a good part of the new WIP I’m working on. *Cue cheesy porn music* It’s time to add a little sex to the mix *nudge-nudge, wink-wink*. The characters have been dancing around one another for a time now, building up to this moment, and everything is about to explode. Should be an interesting scene to write given the friction they’ve been giving off since nearly page one of the story.

I also need to think about unearthing my suitcase for Easter weekend, and figuring out what I need to take with me. Yes, I’m sort of a planner with a bit of last minute decision making thrown in for shits and giggles. I’ll be off to see the familial types for a “drive-by” visit. Being as short as it will be it’s the best description I have, lol! I’ll only be there for a couple of days total before I have to be back to return to work on the Monday. With one of my co-workers off for two weeks for her sons destination wedding in Mexico we’ll be super shorthanded going into that next week.

Well that’s all I have currently. I’m off to do up some laundry, maybe grab a bite to eat of who-knows-what, and then I’m going to chill out with a book, maybe a movie, and then sleep. Been fighting a bit of a bug one of my co-workers was attempting to spread through the place but I’ve been holding out so far. Have a great weekend everyone ~ Moira
