Since last we talked…

It’s been a while. But sometimes real life (RL) kicks you in the teeth, and doesn’t stop there. Kind of what happened to me. Not to get overly detailed since it is the boring RL stuff, but things definitely didn’t go as planned.

The real world (RW) company I work for – the one who helps to pay all my RW bills – hit a patch of insanity, work wise. Long hours started to become the norm, and then some extra responsibilities started to fall onto my shoulders (and other co-works as well) to pick up the slack as some folks left the company for other prospects. Then, over the winter of 2018, word started to make its way through the team that there was a possible corporate purchase in the future. Didn’t think much of it right off, rumor mills are good at stirring up shit after all, but it ended up being true.

Not that we found out about it semi-officially until early spring 2019. Then the rumor mill went into overdrive, and we all started to plan for the “what ifs” that come when you hear your company is about to be purchased. Especially when there’s not exactly a huge flow of information to the ones who keep the company running on the day-to-day. But, hey, owners and management seem to think it’s all them (delusional fucks that they are). The “little people” (ie: the ones pulling the 10-16 hour days keeping the money flowing, the product exiting, and the clients happy) aren’t that important, right?

*Insert an epic, viewing of the brain, eye-roll here*

Mid-spring we finally got confirmation that the sale was progressing, and that we were in fact being purchased. By a competitor in fact, one I’d frankly never heard of except for during the last six months the rumor mill was going wild. Before that … *crickets*

Things took a bit longer than I think the owners of both (ours and theirs) companies originally planned on, because my boss was a half-way decent human being who wanted to ensure that the staff he still had at that time, would continue to have jobs at their same pay rates. There were a few other stipulations that caused some delay, but they were relatively minor in the grand scheme. In the end, we were officially bought, things started to transition, and then THE MOVE talk began. The company would purchased us had a much larger facility, and since our building was on the chopping block to be demo’ed at some point in the sort-of-not-really near future, it all just made sense.

Fall 2019 utter chaos! Between moving a whole company, integrating two very different team dynamics, and learning a new system for all our day-to-day projects – it was rather hellish to be kind. And the ever looming “what if they decide I’m not needed here” thoughts likely didn’t help. Stress be a bitch, yo!

The learning curve was sharp, the work was familiar (huge help!), and generally the other team was lovely, warm, welcoming, and straight up helpful to those of us walking in “blind”. Not to say there weren’t some hiccups, speed bumps, and less than happy folks – but that was, thankfully, in the minority. Coming into the New Year, 2020, looked good, like I might actually be able to get things back on track once more, and start writing on the regular.

Shouldn’t have thought it. Should NOT have thought it!

We all know how 2020 has gone, not going to rehash it. But will say that I was one of the very few in my city who still kept going to work, which I’m grateful for – don’t get me wrong – but it was a whole new level of stress. With restrictions starting to ease slowly as the government in my area starts their phased re-openings to see what can, and can’t be done while still maintaining social distancing, there is some additional stress along with a hint of hope. It’s a wait and see type situation unfortunately. And since we haven’t peaked yet, who knows how well it will work. Cautious optimism with a dash of healthy pessimism is my current state of mind though.

And that there brings us all up to date. While things aren’t back to “normal”, whatever the fuck that means, the situation is settling down enough to take a breath, step back, and look to the future. Who knows what it may hold, but at least we’re working toward something.

So, I hope you all have a great day/week/rest of the month. And hopefully we can chat again soon. Until next time ~ Moira

Wowza! #CrazyWeather

Someone really pissed Mother Nature off today. We’ve had a few little rain bursts and then we got a biggie. I barely got through my door before the skies opened up and down it came. It was like a waterfall, along with lots of lightening and huge cracks of thunder that rattle all my pictures on the walls, gotta love summer weather. Pretty impressive display of power I have to say. But whoever got the old girl so upset you really need to apologize already.

RainyWeatherIt’s rather distracting to be nearly blinded by the lightening and to wonder what else might be rattling about while trying to write a story. My muse is too easily distracted already, no need for any additional assistance. But I will admit it was pretty damn impressive. Hopefully everyone managed to duck inside before the rain started otherwise they’ll be really, really wet. And here in Alberta we do not get warm rain showers, not even close.

On other fronts the writing is progressing. Slowly, but it’s getting there. It’ll be an early night for me I think given how long my day was yesterday, and how tired I still am today. These long work days are really getting old. But enough of that, I have writing still to do before I get to have a snooze. So I’m signing off here, and back into my book. Have a great weekend folks – and if you live in my part of the world remember your umbrella, and rubber boots. Stay dry and warm folks ~ Moira

Pulled in all directions

RedTulip_106622021_XSHello everyone, long time no post. I know, I know – I’m terrible at this most days. But since I had a couple minutes before I need to head out to meet a friend for lunch I figured, why not? The day is sunny, warm and getting warmer. Only bad thing is my allergies. Good gravy! Only downside to spring in my book is all the random sneezes that come from out of the blue and scare the bejeesus out of everyone around me. Although, I will admit, that part is kinda funny. I am not a dainty sneezer if you hadn’t guessed.

Lot’s on the go today, none of it writing though. I have lunch with one friend, coffee with another this afternoon and then I’m showing friend number two around town. She’s thinking about moving here for work and wants to get a lay of the land before she makes the call. Then I’m meeting up with a couple co-workers for dinner before coming home to collapse. Tomorrow’s a loose schedule with my friend from out of town, depends on what she wants to do but again pretty much no time for writing unless I’m up at the crack of dawn. Not being a morning person that sort of thought really makes me shudder.

Cup of coffee with notebook on deskI’m hopeful dinner tonight doesn’t go too long and then I can get in a couple hours. And if I’m even luckier I can talk my outta town buddy into doing a few things late morning, early afternoon. If it all works out then it’ll give me several hours to get some work in. Characters are talking to me which is a great thing. That means there will be progress. Jotted down a couple notes for what they’re talking about to use later.

Well, that’s about it folks. I’ve gotta get a move on or I’m going to be late. Have a fabulous day ~ Moira

Back on track

This past week at the day job has been, in one word, hellish. To keep it short we’ll just say we’ve been dealing with a lot over the last three months that culminated into the final push last week. So much to do in a very little amount of time. We did it, but we’re all feeling it in various aching muscles and pure exhaustion. Too many long hours with too many projects to try and fit into those hours. It left very little time for anything else.

OrangeDaisy_106231315_XSIncluding writing. Sadly I got absolutely none done the last week, the body and brain was too tired to do more than put one foot in front of the other. Got some done this weekend which was a relief. And with things starting to settle down this coming week I should have a chance to do even more. Since we hadn’t planned for things to be this disruptive at the day job not a one of us had figured we’d need to alter how we were doing things. Boy were we wrong. Here’s hoping we get it under control sooner than later.

In better news is the fact it’s actually spring around here. The sun is shining which led me to cleaning my windows. I’m now blinded – totally – from the light coming through. Should’ve left a few streaks I’m thinking, lol! Did a little spring cleaning yesterday as well, mainly because I had to finish finding the various items I’ll need for the most dreaded time of year – tax season. But I know have them all (I hope) in hand so I can do that once I receive the last piece in the mail that I require and get that off my list of things to do.

In the meantime – writing, writing and more writing. So I’m off to go dash through the shower and get back to it while the ideas are still churning. Have a great night ~ Moira

The gameplan

Spell Check, word cloud concept 9Laundry’s in the dryer which means it’s finally time to download VIPER, The Scoundrels MC book 1 to see what editing notes in the doc I have and what all needs to be done. I received them over the long weekend and since then haven’t had two seconds to do more than briefly glance at the editor sheet with her notes. For the most part it sounds pretty damn good. A few spots I need to fill in to make everything smoother, and a couple goofy things that obviously I wrote while half asleep. Ugh! Really need to stop doing that.

Once that’s off my plate the rest of the weekend is for writing. Which means more work done on book 3 of the Living Victorious series. Many readers have asked when this one is coming out. Unfortunately I’ve had a hell of a time getting back into the groove since Christmas. The extra long break and a shake up around work, nothing horrible mind you – just extra hours, extra work, and no extra help or bump in pay – mucked up my rhythm. Gotta get my groove back basically.

Last thing I need to do is load some more of my writer friends onto the blog for the coming weeks – been slacking there sadly. But I can do that during my breaks when I need a moment to clear the brain fog out.

Beyond that it will be lots of coffee, many snacks, and pounding the keys until my hands cramp and I need to find something else to do for a little while. I hope everyone has a great weekend and I’ll update soon. ~ Moira

Chilly, breezy Saturday

beautiful woman inspirer of the artist and composer

At least the sun is shining, so that’s a plus. It’s a great day to stay hunkered down and writing, which is what I’m attempting to do with my hyped up muse bouncing off the walls in my head. She’s all over the map which means focusing on the one story I desperate want to get done is a definite challenge and a half.

Since it’s been a while I figured I should do some updates on what’s been going on. The main reason for no postings in the last month has been work. We’ve got a lot of changes happening there along with several interruptions that had doubled up my work, and completely ruined my normal schedule. Long hours meant very little time to do anything else, including writing. Quite the irritation that was I have to say.

But in better news I’d submitted a book to start up a new series right at the beginning of the New Year and it was accepted. VIPER is book one of my new MC series, The Scoundrels. I have a page started for his story with the unedited blurb included for anyone interested in finding out more. Not much to say yet except that he, and his MC brothers will be coming to Evernight Publishing in March 2016. My first published book of 2016 point of fact.

I am working on the next book in the Living Victorious series, currently and tentatively titled The Voice. This is Jeremy’s story, who as readers of the series know is the lead singer for the band Victorious. His story has given me several fits, may be leading to ulcers and is generally a pain in my ass. It took me several fits and starts to even get the story moving along, but now I’ve found some sort of pace that seems to be working. No date yet set for all those who are wondering since I haven’t even got halfway quite yet. Once I have him and his leading lady, Melanie, submitted I will let everyone know and what the projected date of release might be. No promises but I’m hoping to have his story submitted sometime in February – barring any more issues with these two characters.

I think that is about it for the time being. I will have more things to announce in the coming days so stay tuned for that stuff. In the meantime I am off to get a coffee refill and slap around my characters and my muse in the hopes to get something productive done today. ~ Moira

Time to prepare

preparing for christmas with gift box and ribbons‘Tis the season for chaos, which means it’s time to figure out what I’m doing before I start running around like a chicken without a head. Not a pretty sight. I have my shopping lists – short this year since I bought lots online, but there are still a few things I have to purchase in store. I have done some shopping to date … unfortunately there is more yet to do. *sigh*

On top of that I have to keep my muse, fickle bitch, in line. She’s got me jumping between three stories, one being the next chapter in the Living Victorious series, and two others that are totally different. But I’m staying mum on them for the time being, at least until she gets through her “mood”. If I talk about them too much she’ll lose interest and then start this crap all over again a few months down the road.

In other news, because I’ve had enough talk about that muse of mine, I’ve got my tickets booked to go see the family persons over Christmas. And I have my holiday schedule which means several days of uninterrupted writing before having to head back to the day gig. I’m rather happy about that, my hope is to pump out at least two of these stories and get them submitted by or just after the New Year. Fingers crossed!

Other than that life is good, our weather isn’t too bad considering it’s the middle of December and we’ve only had a couple minor blizzards that really didn’t do much. Which I’m okay with, means no snow to slog through to and from work. And on that note I’d better get to some of that writing I mentioned earlier. Lots to do ~ Moira

Windy Wednesday

Young Cute Man Taking Shower In BathroomHappy Hump Day everyone. As the title suggests, we had ourselves a very breezy day here in the city. But that’s not all I have to share – it was generally a very weird day. It likely has everything to do with the sleep that I didn’t get last night, but I had the damnedest time trying to remember what day it was. On top of that the weirdo count went through the roof at work. No, not just talking about my co-workers – we don’t count them since they are there every day – I mean the other weirdos. The ones that wander in off the street, or call with no clear reason as to why they are calling. It’s like they want to “chat” or some silly thing. I don’t have time for “chatting” during the day. I barely have time for what I have to get done during the day.

But it is over, thank goodness. Now I can spend my evening relaxing, watching some TV, and working on my second round of edits for Dangerous Reactions, C&M Security 6. I actually have the majority done but my editor found a couple other issues that I need to clean up. Nothing major thankfully, but they are making me think. Not a good plan for tonight so I may need to wait until the brain is functioning better. I’d really hate to write myself into an even worse corner my editor has to get me out of, lol!

What else is there to talk about? Oh, yes! Coming May 21, 2015 (that’s a Thursday if you were wondering) Evernight Publishing is having a Facebook Event – Summer’s Kick-Off Event to be exact. If you’re interested in joining feel free. There will be lots of authors, lots of prizes, and who knows what mayhem might ensue. You can join by clicking here – this will take you to the Facebook Event page, and click the “join” button.

Well that’s it for now. I may, or may not have more news later – but for now I must remain quiet. I know, I’m evil even mentioning it, but that is life. Until later everyone ~ Moira

The week is finally over

loadingSo happy to say it’s over. It was much too long, thankfully my co-worker will be back next week to take off some of the stress. I’ve also made the decision she is never, ever allowed to go away again. Ever. I doubt it will fly with anyone, but damn it! LOL!

The sun is beginning to set as I contemplate what to work on tonight writing wise. With all my household chores done, thank you very much, I won’t have anything to distract me this weekend. So writing is on the agenda. I have numerous stories in semi-stages of completion that I really need to get on. Some closer than others to being completed, others in their infancy. If only my muse would focus.

I have a new series planned, won’t say much on it since I’m still working on the back stories of the characters, and a lot of the other stuff makes an author’s head spin like the girl in the Exorcist. It’s definitely making mine attempt it from time to time. But such is the life we have chosen to bring the voices in our heads out into the public eye.

I think that’s it for tonight. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. Sleep late, be a little lazy, and enjoy it. ~ Moira

Ahhh, Friday!

Friday word text colorful fireworksSo, so, so glad it’s Friday and therefore the weekend. It has been one hell of a week. Between inventory at work, and having to update the system we use so it isn’t such a mess (and a half) to just plain weird people, it’s been a bit of a chore. But now that it’s over I can focus on things I couldn’t during the week when too many “real life” issues yanked me one way or another.

Writing. I’m getting into a good part of the new WIP I’m working on. *Cue cheesy porn music* It’s time to add a little sex to the mix *nudge-nudge, wink-wink*. The characters have been dancing around one another for a time now, building up to this moment, and everything is about to explode. Should be an interesting scene to write given the friction they’ve been giving off since nearly page one of the story.

I also need to think about unearthing my suitcase for Easter weekend, and figuring out what I need to take with me. Yes, I’m sort of a planner with a bit of last minute decision making thrown in for shits and giggles. I’ll be off to see the familial types for a “drive-by” visit. Being as short as it will be it’s the best description I have, lol! I’ll only be there for a couple of days total before I have to be back to return to work on the Monday. With one of my co-workers off for two weeks for her sons destination wedding in Mexico we’ll be super shorthanded going into that next week.

Well that’s all I have currently. I’m off to do up some laundry, maybe grab a bite to eat of who-knows-what, and then I’m going to chill out with a book, maybe a movie, and then sleep. Been fighting a bit of a bug one of my co-workers was attempting to spread through the place but I’ve been holding out so far. Have a great weekend everyone ~ Moira
