Since last we talked…

It’s been a while. But sometimes real life (RL) kicks you in the teeth, and doesn’t stop there. Kind of what happened to me. Not to get overly detailed since it is the boring RL stuff, but things definitely didn’t go as planned.

The real world (RW) company I work for – the one who helps to pay all my RW bills – hit a patch of insanity, work wise. Long hours started to become the norm, and then some extra responsibilities started to fall onto my shoulders (and other co-works as well) to pick up the slack as some folks left the company for other prospects. Then, over the winter of 2018, word started to make its way through the team that there was a possible corporate purchase in the future. Didn’t think much of it right off, rumor mills are good at stirring up shit after all, but it ended up being true.

Not that we found out about it semi-officially until early spring 2019. Then the rumor mill went into overdrive, and we all started to plan for the “what ifs” that come when you hear your company is about to be purchased. Especially when there’s not exactly a huge flow of information to the ones who keep the company running on the day-to-day. But, hey, owners and management seem to think it’s all them (delusional fucks that they are). The “little people” (ie: the ones pulling the 10-16 hour days keeping the money flowing, the product exiting, and the clients happy) aren’t that important, right?

*Insert an epic, viewing of the brain, eye-roll here*

Mid-spring we finally got confirmation that the sale was progressing, and that we were in fact being purchased. By a competitor in fact, one I’d frankly never heard of except for during the last six months the rumor mill was going wild. Before that … *crickets*

Things took a bit longer than I think the owners of both (ours and theirs) companies originally planned on, because my boss was a half-way decent human being who wanted to ensure that the staff he still had at that time, would continue to have jobs at their same pay rates. There were a few other stipulations that caused some delay, but they were relatively minor in the grand scheme. In the end, we were officially bought, things started to transition, and then THE MOVE talk began. The company would purchased us had a much larger facility, and since our building was on the chopping block to be demo’ed at some point in the sort-of-not-really near future, it all just made sense.

Fall 2019 utter chaos! Between moving a whole company, integrating two very different team dynamics, and learning a new system for all our day-to-day projects – it was rather hellish to be kind. And the ever looming “what if they decide I’m not needed here” thoughts likely didn’t help. Stress be a bitch, yo!

woman-1733891_1920

The learning curve was sharp, the work was familiar (huge help!), and generally the other team was lovely, warm, welcoming, and straight up helpful to those of us walking in “blind”. Not to say there weren’t some hiccups, speed bumps, and less than happy folks – but that was, thankfully, in the minority. Coming into the New Year, 2020, looked good, like I might actually be able to get things back on track once more, and start writing on the regular.

Shouldn’t have thought it. Should NOT have thought it!

We all know how 2020 has gone, not going to rehash it. But will say that I was one of the very few in my city who still kept going to work, which I’m grateful for – don’t get me wrong – but it was a whole new level of stress. With restrictions starting to ease slowly as the government in my area starts their phased re-openings to see what can, and can’t be done while still maintaining social distancing, there is some additional stress along with a hint of hope. It’s a wait and see type situation unfortunately. And since we haven’t peaked yet, who knows how well it will work. Cautious optimism with a dash of healthy pessimism is my current state of mind though.

And that there brings us all up to date. While things aren’t back to “normal”, whatever the fuck that means, the situation is settling down enough to take a breath, step back, and look to the future. Who knows what it may hold, but at least we’re working toward something.

So, I hope you all have a great day/week/rest of the month. And hopefully we can chat again soon. Until next time ~ Moira

So much to catch up on

It’s been a really long time since I did a post, my apologies, but life kinda got away from me. Which means there’s more than a few things to catch everyone up on. First up I’d like to say hey to all my readers, you guys rock, and I adore every single one of you. You always have my back, even when I’m not putting out new things, it quite frankly humbles me to know you guys are always there. Like with Evernight’s 4th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards. You spoke and got VIPER nominated for a spot & a chance at the MC Romance title this year. As well, you’ve nominated red rose on typewriterBAD ALPHA for a shot at the Anthologies title. For anyone that wants to vote I have the link to the right (click on the graphic) that you can use.

Now, what has Moira been up to since she last posted. Well, I’ve been writing off and on when real life permits. I have a few projects I’m puttering away on. Mostly I’ve been focused on getting book 3 of the Living Victorious series closer to completion. I’m closing in on the end of Jeremy’s, the bands lead singer, story. But I know I still have some time left on it since I have a lead in for the next book planned. It will NOT be a cliffhanger, but there will be a small hint to what’s to come. Which you’ll clearly see when book 4 in the series comes out. I’ve got the start of 4 already down on “paper” since I needed to know what it was I’m leading into. Be warned, it will be very subtle – but definitely there for those who are looking for it.

Originally I’d planned to have a Christmas story for this year, but time wasn’t on my side. On a good note though, I will have it ready for next year (2017) and I also have a New Years story planned to go with it, a companion story so to speak. I have been puttering on the next Scoundrels book, but LV3 has been my main focus, and once I’m over the hump with Jeremy (he’s been a pain in my ass I have to tell you) then I can turn my focus to getting more biker’s in your hands since they are clamoring to be heard.

Stay tuned stampLuckily I will have a block of time off from the evil day job (E.D.J.) coming up over Christmas, and once my familial obligations are out of the way I will be closeting myself with my laptop to get some serious writing completed. My current hope, fingers/toes crossed, is to have LV3 in Evernight’s hands early in 2017 to have it come out as soon as humanly possible, schedules permitting. By which point I should have book 2 for Scoundrels near ready to submit around the release time. And then LV4 will be close on it’s heels since the bones are already there just waiting for the meat to fill it all in.

Let’s see what else is there… Well, I think that actually might be it – for now. So I will let you get back to your regularly scheduled programming, and I will get on with my laundry before I have to return to the E.D.J. tomorrow. Have a great Sunday ~ Moira

Time to prepare

preparing for christmas with gift box and ribbons‘Tis the season for chaos, which means it’s time to figure out what I’m doing before I start running around like a chicken without a head. Not a pretty sight. I have my shopping lists – short this year since I bought lots online, but there are still a few things I have to purchase in store. I have done some shopping to date … unfortunately there is more yet to do. *sigh*

On top of that I have to keep my muse, fickle bitch, in line. She’s got me jumping between three stories, one being the next chapter in the Living Victorious series, and two others that are totally different. But I’m staying mum on them for the time being, at least until she gets through her “mood”. If I talk about them too much she’ll lose interest and then start this crap all over again a few months down the road.

In other news, because I’ve had enough talk about that muse of mine, I’ve got my tickets booked to go see the family persons over Christmas. And I have my holiday schedule which means several days of uninterrupted writing before having to head back to the day gig. I’m rather happy about that, my hope is to pump out at least two of these stories and get them submitted by or just after the New Year. Fingers crossed!

Other than that life is good, our weather isn’t too bad considering it’s the middle of December and we’ve only had a couple minor blizzards that really didn’t do much. Which I’m okay with, means no snow to slog through to and from work. And on that note I’d better get to some of that writing I mentioned earlier. Lots to do ~ Moira

Hello weekend!

Yes, Weekend - inspirational quote.I am so very happy it’s the weekend. It was a very long week at the day job full of people who truly tested my limits to the max, and it wasn’t even the other employees this time. No this week it was the clients. Yet again I question why I’m a customer service rep. I am not a people person. I might be if I didn’t have to deal with the nine levels of customer service hell on a regular basis. And that’s just Monday morning before I’ve had coffee!

All I can think is, one less week until retirement, and way too many to count still to plow through. That and prison orange is so not my color! Which is pretty much the only reason I haven’t let loose the dogs o’ war on these people and told them what I truly think. May whoever you believe in have mercy on your souls (should you believe in them) if I ever win a lottery though.

But enough of that! The plan for today is to write, write, and write some more. I have a book to finish, and finish it I will. I’m hoping this weekend so I can take a day to give it a read through, but I’m making no promises. As soon as I think I have a plan in place someone wrenches the rug out from under me, and fucks up my grand plan six ways of Sunday.

So the only plan is to write. Then I’ll plan to write some more, and possibly even more. After all I have plenty of coffee, I even have some snacks on standby, and plenty of fresh air to keep me going. Though I may need to reconsider having a window open at all tomorrow. Doesn’t sound like Mother Natures quite done with smacking us around with winter yet. That’s okay. If the weather goes as it sounds like it might it’s all the more reason to stay safely tucked indoors, and -you guessed it- write!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend wherever you might be. Stop by tomorrow for something new I’m trying out along with some authors of much greater note than I. ~ Moira

PS – Did you know I’m on Authorgraph now? If you’d like me to sign an e-book of mine you’ve purchased I will. The link is on the side bar under my welcome message, and above my WIP progress bars. Click the link, pick the book, and when I get the notification I’ll go and sign it for you with a personalized message.

Sunny Sunday

SunshineIt’s more than a little chilly here right now, but the sun is out currently, and shining brightly so hopefully it warms up a bit as the day progresses. Though the weather network appears to be mildly confused on what’s going to happen with the local weather. Doesn’t matter really since I need to get to writing today.

So much to do, and so many weird ideas swirling around in my head. Hopefully some of them actually pertain to the stories I’m working on. Today’s focus will be on the C&M book, really need to get this puppy done and out to the readers. After that’s done I can focus on the other stories demanding notice from me.

On that note I’m off to get these opinionated, and stubborn characters in line, and see what I can drag out of them today in way of their story. Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday, talk soon ~ Moira

Here we go…

Well it’s been a very chilly start to 2015 so far. We had a huge blizzard blow in yesterday, dumping a lot of snow onto the city, and brought some very unnecessarily cold weather with it. I know it’s winter and all, but it really wasn’t nice of Mother Nature to do that.

SnowyDayThankfully I haven’t had any reason to go outside beyond sticking my nose out my balcony doors to see just how chilly it was. It was damn chilly I’ll tell you right now. So I pulled the blinds, turned on the TV to the Holiday Fireplace for some ambiance, grabbed more coffee, and got down to some writing. Or attempted to. Apparently all my characters went off on an unauthorized bender over the holidays, and still haven’t fully recovered.

I did manage to get in some stuff on my C&M Security book, but definitely nothing of significance. Which is okay I guess, the brain isn’t back into full gear as it is anyway so getting back at this slowly isn’t a horrific plan. Especially since I’m still figuring out my new laptop, and the fact it has a few interesting quirks I’m having to work around. Like a possessed mouse pad. Which raises another question, who was the bloody brainiac that though increasing the size of the damn mouse pad on a laptop was a good idea? Like I don’t have enough problems with the things, no-no, lets make the space even bigger and ten times more sensitive than all previous models. Great plan there.

In other news my place has never been so spotless. I’ve had more than a bit of time to clean, obviously since the characters went off on hiatus. Not even complaining a little. Before the holidays I was too busy running around like a crazed lunatic to give it more than a quick once over, so it was nice to do the down and gritty cleaning. Though my knees may hate me for a few more days from scrubbing my floor by hand lol!

EPHolidayHangoverHopAnd before I completely forget to mention this. There is still a few hours left to my publishers Holiday Hangover Blog Hop. I’m hosting on my blog, A Great New Read, and there are also many other great spots to get in on the action as well. You can start right [HERE] on my publisher’s site.

Well that’s it for this rambling blog post. Hope everyone’s having a great start to the New Year. Have a great night, a great weekend, and I’ll post again soon… ~ Moira

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas card with red baubles on snowy surfaceIt’s been a wild year for me I must admit. Signing my first contract, having my very first book go up for sale, and then of course having that very first sale of something I created. To say it was absolutely, 100% terrifying would be a grave understatement. I was scared spitless, shaking in my boots, and completely sure I’d made a horrific mistake.

But then you, my readers, soothed all my ragged nerves, and made my day – my month – my year! You started to talk about my books, discussing them with me, and even adopting some of my characters in rather unconventional ways. I won’t name names, you all know who you are, and I adore every single one of you.

Small side note – GIVE VINCENT BACK ALREADY YOU HUSSIES!! (ps – Love you all to bits!)

So, thank you from the bottom of my heart for not only buying my books, but loving the stories I created, as well as the characters as much as I do. Even though some of your relationships with said characters might be a tad unhealthy. Just an observation.

2015 is a brand New Year, with many new things to come from me. I hope to see you all on the flip side as we turn the page, and start new once more…

Here comes book four…

dangerous-circumstancesI have an awesome cover (thank you Sour Cherry Designs!), I have a date, and my publisher has the finished, smoothed out version of the book. Life is awesome! Don’t really have a lot to say except that Dangerous Circumstances, C&M Security 4 will be available December 17, 2014 for purchase at a bunch of places. And then a few more about a week later when they finally catch up with the cool kids.

So, please enjoy the fan-freaking-tastic cover, I know I am, and here’s a little something to whet the appetite…

***************     ***************     ***************

It wasn’t so much a sound that woke him. There was a sound, but it was so soft he really shouldn’t have noticed. It wasn’t like he was a light sleeper or anything, but he also knew when he wasn’t in his own bed.

Cracking open an eye, Mack peered around.

He recognized the furniture around him. He was on Denise’s sofa. What caught his eye was Denise. She was in the kitchen of her condo, puttering around while the heady scent of coffee teased his senses.

With a groan, he pushed up to a sitting position and rubbed his face. When he dropped his hands, a coffee mug was in front of his face. Taking it automatically, he looked up to see Denise’s worried face staring down at him. Yeah, she likely had a reason to be worried given how and when he’d shown up at her door.

“Thanks,” he croaked out.

She just nodded and went back to the kitchen. “Breakfast will be ready in ten.”

“What time is it?” Taking a sip of the strong brew Mack let out a sigh. Another sip helped push the caffeine into his system.

“Uh, it’s almost noon. So technically it’s lunchtime, but whatever. We’re having breakfast,” she told him.

Shit, noon? Fucking hell. He hadn’t expected to sleep so late, normally wouldn’t have if he hadn’t wandered around San Francisco in the wee hours of the morning. Pushing up from the sofa, he stretched and winced at the aching muscles.

“Let me hit the bathroom and I’ll be right out,” he said. Another gulp of coffee, and he set the mug aside as she flicked a hand in acknowledgement. Not sure what else to say, he went to the bathroom.

When he came back out she had the food on the table, mugs refilled, and was wiping down the stove. Unsure what to do, not for the first time around Denise, he waited on her.

“Sit down, Mack,” she said. Tossing the sponge she’d been using into the sink, she came around the island to the table and sat.

Well, all right. Frowning, he went to one of the chairs with a plate set before it, and sat down. Pancakes, eggs and bacon. Not exactly the healthiest of meals but it was great comfort food, and just what he needed.

Have a wonderful night! ~ Moira

Happy Sunday ya’ll

Wake up coffee cupThe sun is shining on a very chilly temperature here in my city. But with coffee in hand, wrapped in a nice toasty warm sweater, and the heater up a little higher than normal I’m quite comfortable. Enough so that I can get to work on my WIP’s. At least while the characters are chatting with me anyway.

I never know how long they’ll be willing to converse with me so I can write out their story. Today though they seem relatively chatty, so I’m going to take advantage. Get what I can down on the page before they decide to meander off once more as they have been wont to do of late. Little buggers are driving me batty.

Edits are all in for book for of the C&M Security series so now I’m waiting on my cover art, and a date of release. A little impatiently I must admit since it was originally projected to come out in November. Obviously this didn’t happen as we’re now sitting on the last day of the month, but that’s fine. It took a little bit of time to get it just right, and personally I’d rather have the book “right” then rushed. Though I will admit that I really, really want to see what the cover will be for this one. Evernight’s cover designer is pretty flipping phenomenal so it’s always a fantastic surprise to find a cover mock-up sitting in your in-box waiting for you. I’m very sure this one will be no different.

Only downside to another month going down is that we’re now that much closer to Christmas. I am so not ready for the holiday. I really have to figure out a way to get all my shopping done early or I’m going to totally be screwed. Especially since I always go up to see the family for the holiday. But even that’s a little screwy this year because of a trip that is mucking up when we’ll be celebrating. Oh well, we’re all adults around here. At least until you have to wait to open your presents and then it’s like we all revert to little kids, lol!

Last bit of info to pass along as well. There is only a few more days to vote in the Evernight Publishing 2nd Annual Readers Choice Awards. The polls close on December 5, 2014 – this coming Friday. To vote all you need to do is click the image below, and it will take you directly to the voting site.

Remember, I have 2 books in 2 different categories to vote on. One is in Humor – Forever Kind of Love; and the other is in Suspense – Dangerous Lines, C&M Security 3.

That’s all I have for today, really gotta get to work on these WIP’s. Have a great day everyone ~ Moira

A teeth chattering chill

We are definitely getting the “cold shoulder” from Mother Nature in these parts. I don’t know who pissed her off, but apologize already! Only good thing about such weather is it gives me a damn fine reason to stay inside where it’s toasty warm. Because there isn’t a chance at all that I’ll go out until the mercury starts crawling back up unless I absolutely have to. Sadly my boss insists that going to work is one of those absolutes.

Thank goodness it’s the weekend, LOL! I can stay warm at home, I don’t have to get dressed for any particular reason, and I can work on my two WIP’s. Plus there is an unlimited amount of coffee available to be had. Oh, and cookies too – totally forgot about the cookies.

Tropical beach

Not that I didn’t wish I was somewhere much warmer of course. The place above would do. I don’t even care where it is. There’s blue water, a couple hammocks and lots of sunshine. I think it’s the perfect place to relax, and write. Oh to have a view like that for inspiration. Okay, maybe it wouldn’t do well for inspiration, but it would do amazing things for my already winter weary mental state lol!

All right, I need to go and do something productive. Like writing I do believe. I hope everyone has a great weekend. Stay toasty ya’ll ~ Moira
