Snow day

Yup, you read that right. Woke up to snow on the ground with more snow falling from the sky. Yes, it’s May, no this is not unusual in my part of the Canadian landscape. Being as close to the Rocky Mountains as I (and a few hundred thousand others) am, it’s a rather depressing and icky reality. I hate snow. So-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o much.

But that’s something I cannot control so I will try not to focus too much on it, even with the collection clearly visible on my balcony railing that continues to get deeper. No, there are much more happy and awesome things to consider.

Like the fact that I have a date for the release of Forever Kind of Love. It will be releasing on May 7, 2014 – that’s Wednesday so you know. I also got a peek at the cover for the book (which I will share as soon as I’m permitted) and it is freaking AWESOME! Sour Cherry Designs is the Evernight Publishing cover artist and, OMG! Totally went deep into my mind and plucked out the most perfect design ever. I was stunned and at a total lack of words when I saw it. Which, for me, is unusual. I always have something to say – not always nice, not always polite and usually sarcastic – but I’m never one not to have something to say. Sour Cherry Designs did the impossible.

And, because I’m in a giving and sharing mood, I figured I’d also give you something beyond the (now edited & approved) blurb and excerpt from the Forever Kind of Love page. So, enjoy! ~ Moira

Veronica Roni Malone, the girl of his dreams. A lot of dreams, actually. Fuck, she’d starred in his teenage imaginings and it had been better than anything in his old man’s porn collection. She’d made high school enjoyable for him.
But he’d never pushed her for more, though he’d had an inkling that she would have been all right with that. But he’d never had a girl that was just a friend. Usually, all the girls around him had wanted was his body. Or his class notes, which had been meticulous, thank you very much.
Roni had known him better than he had known himself, not that he’d have admitted that at the time. Hell no. But he could see it now, and she’d stood by him through a few rough patches in their senior year. Including Tiffany Selorski and her lies.
Hell, Roni had given him an alibi and, thankfully, the one that had actually gotten Tiffany pregnant had been outed. Again, all thanks to his best girl, Roni.
She really hadn’t changed much from back in the day. Oh, she was a little taller and a little softer in all the right places and, holy shit. She had a rack on her. Yes, he’d noticed, so sue him.
Shaking his head, he pushed off the car and shut the hood. Giving it a quick wipe, he patted the side panel and went to his office, the dreaded paperwork waiting for him. The only part of owning five shops that killed him? All the fucking paperwork that seemed to try to drown him on a regular basis.
After checking with his receptionist, seventeen-year-old Daniella, he took his messages and shut himself in his office. Sitting down behind his desk, he thumbed through the pile but they didn’t hold his attention, so he tossed them on the desk. Spinning his chair around he stared out over the wooded lot behind his shop, but all he saw was Roni.
She’d looked amazing. When he’d first spotted her, he’d nearly tripped over himself to get to her as fast as he could. Fucking girl had grown into one hell of a sexy woman. Curves to make a man beg and a pouty little look about her lips that made him want to give her the world.

That wasn’t

Really so bad. The edits I mean, lol! A couple cups of coffee and a few minutes to read the editors notes and it went pretty smooth. There was really only a couple of times she, my editor, stumped me. One was over a word choice which, I admit, I had to dig the Thesaurus out to figure out what I wanted to use instead of the word in there. The second was something that was actually pretty easy to fix, once the caffeine kicked in.

So, I’ll give them one more read through and then shoot them back. Might as well. They gave me two weeks to get them done but it’s a really, really short story so I don’t think that time’s needed, at all. I will also admit to adding in a little note to my editor for being so kind to me for the first round. Laurie was an absolute doll and even put in a few amused comments about various parts. I even got a couple “I LOVE this!” out of her, woohoo! LOL! It’s nice to know that you can make your editor grin in between making her grind her teeth at your use of comma’s and stuff.

Yes, I admit I am an idiot when it comes to comma’s and, apparently, some issues with sentence structure. Again, that whole advice about “write how you speak” is coming back to bite me in the ass. But she was kind about it, thank goodness, and hopefully I will take something away from this. Like maybe a slightly better understanding of the English language structuring.

Likely not, but I hold out hope!

Whew! Now that that is out of the way and sent back in, I think I will switch over to something with a little more punch in the beverage department. That and figure out what I feel like cooking for dinner since about 99.999% of things are seriously frozen at the moment. Then I think I will dig out my latest WIP and see if I can’t beat some of these damned characters into some form of submission.

Until later everyone ~ Moira

Heard back

From my bestie about the new prospective book and got the thumbs up from her. So I’m just getting it ready to submit – worst part of this whole process I think – and should be shooting it off tomorrow at some point.

On other fronts I’m doing all my prep for the new book I’m thinking on. So far I have a horde of folks, a bunch of background and a lot of neat little facts and shit I can use in it. No story yet started but that’s step number…let’s see, it should be around, twenty I think from what I’ve got done already. LOL! Should be a fun little book to write. It will likely be short though but I’m thinking it too, like my second book, will be a series.

Which should be great, I can flip flop back and forth between the two and keep everything fresh and interesting. No clue how long either series will be, though I think the first one (the one I’ll be subbing) will be shorter, likely around the 4 maybe 6 book mark. The second one (the one I’m prepping) will be longer – no clue how long though.

Guess it doesn’t rightly matter at this point, I have to write the book first to get it started before I really worry about the length of the series. LOL! Ah, but that’s me, getting ahead of myself just for the hell of it. Oh well.

That is it I think for tonight, I’m off to do some more work on these folks for my next book. Have a good night all ~ Moira

Trying to

Figure out the big reveal. In my current WIP I mean. I’m kind of leaning towards building it up a little more and, honestly, I’ve been going with my gut on all of this anyway so I think I’ll follow it once more.

I could do the reveal sooner but I think the tension needs to be built up more. Yes there’s definitely some now, the back story, the current troubles but I think it needs to be bigger. If I reveal it too soon then I’m worried this will piss of the readers. Which would be seriously bad. So very bad.

Don’t want a lynch mob coming for me after all, lol!

So, yeah, I’m going to prolong the “reveal” I think. It feels right and will make the story all the better. I hope. Well, I suppose there’s nothing to lose from at least trying it and seeing how it “feels”. If it doesn’t work I can always rewrite it, I suppose. But only if my Beta readers give me the thumbs down about it. I do rely on them, and my friend that got me headed down this path, to give me the nitty gritty of their thoughts. So far they haven’t led me astray.

All right, decisions made, I’m off to do some writing. Get this WIP to the big blow out of all blow outs. We’ll chat again later ~ Moira

Another chilly

Saturday, oh and it’s pretty damn gloomy too. Heavy cloud coverage, nasty little wind and it’s definitely looking like it just might snow again. Ick!

At least it’s the weekend and I’m inside. Writing to be specific actually. After sleeping in until my poor body actually felt rested. Though I am considering the idea of a nap. Ah, the joys of being an adult, lol! You can nap whenever you want – except at work, bosses frown on this stuff apparently – and doing what you want when you want. That and bills and other “responsible” crap that comes with the “adult” title.

I’m making pretty good headway on my latest WIP. Up and over the 10k word mark so I’m very happy. And it’s still coming along nicely and quite strong. Which is great, but my head is having ideas faster than my fingers can keep up – don’t you just hate that? I do as well, to a degree, but I’m writing all the little ideas down as I go so I don’t forget them. Not sure if I’ll actually use them in this story or in the next one or something else entirely. Who knows. I’m just glad my head is giving me a bunch of stuff, it’s kinda nice actually, especially given how quiet the voices were during the week. Not surprising really, I was too damned tired to write during the week – that’s what happens when you work for a slave driver of a boss.

Well, I have more coffee in hand and more to write so I’m out of here. Chat later ~ Moira

Well folks,

Evernight-FamilyIt’s official! And now I can tell you all just who my publisher will be. I’m happy to announce that I signed on with Evernight Publishing and am now a part of the family over there. Squee! Very excited.

And absolutely terrified, lol! This shit just got real people. It’s actually happening. Holy moly, it’s ACTUALLY happening. Wow! I think I need to sit down. Oh, wait, I am sitting down.

So, my first book ever will be coming out roughly in May 2014. No firm date, of course, this is still the early days. The book is titled Forever Kind of Love though this may change if the publisher feels something else would better suit. I will put up the book cover as soon as I have it but, in the mean time, if you go over to the Coming Soon tab for a little sneak peek into the story. Just remember, it’s all pre-edits so…be kind people! LOL!

All right, that’s all I’ve got for the moment. I’m off to let this sink in a little more and do some writing on the potential book 2 I might have come out. ~ Moira
