Totally shocked!

Found out on Friday that I was in two, TWO, categories for the 2nd Annual Evernight Readers’ Choice Awards. I’m so excited! Forever Kind of Love was nominated in the Humor category, and Dangerous Lines was nominated in the Suspense category. I was hopeful that maybe one of my books might make the cut, but to get two books up there is making me seriously giddy.

Green Smiley

I don’t think I stopped grinning the entire night, lol! It’s just, wow. I’m completely awed, and stunned that my readers thought so much of my books to nominate them. I can’t do this job without their support, but to see it showcased so amazingly is heart warming to say the least. It definitely makes the long nights of arguing with my characters to get a scene just right, working and reworking a particular patch of dialogue, and of course the terror of seeing what the editor has done to fix my gaffes all worth it.

All I can say is thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I have amazing readers, and I love you all to bits for your vote of confidence in my works. You guys rock, and make me want to write even more for you to have.

But not right off, I have to do a few boring things first like grocery shopping and such things. Then I’ll get to work on some more of that words to page. I’ve already started on C&M Security book 6 (the prequel) that stars Robyn and Grant. I’ve also started a paranormal story too. Not exactly sure where that one is going, but it’s apparently quite happy to lead me on a merry little trail as I meander along with it. It popped into my head, and now it’s not letting go. Sucky thing though is I’m only getting little bursts, bits and pieces really, to add. I think the characters are still trying to figure out where it’s all going to go so they’re only giving up what’s needed to keep it fresh in my head. We shall see.

For now I’m off to get busy with a few things. Have a fantastic weekend – and don’t forget to VOTE! Click any of the Readers’ Choice Awards images in the right hand bar of items and you’ll be taken right to the voting form. ~ Moira

TGIF!

Hot diggity damn, it’s Friday. About bloody time it showed up. For only a four day work week – it was damn lo-o-o-o-ong. Somehow I managed to survive it, which is really all that matters, or counts. Some of the people I had to deal with though…m’eh, they were a little closer to not surviving their weeks. Today was the day filled with people calling in who you have to shake your head at. Either that, or run out stark naked into traffic screaming at the top of your lungs until the dudes with the self-hugging white jacket wrangle you. Thank goodness for a coffee shop less than half a block away, otherwise I might have been out racing through traffic.

It’s days like today that make me question the wisdom of my day job. And question it, and question it, and question it some more. I think I need to re-evaluate my money maker a smidge, or a lot. Confession – I am not a people person. Yet every, single, flipping job I’ve ever had, I’ve had to deal with the public. Obviously something is seriously wrong with me. I need a job testing pillows, or taste testing coffee blends, or ohhhhh! Food taste tester… Oh gawd, now I’m drooling with the thought of the possibilities. Of course, only downside to that is, I’d likely have to work out. Ugh! The dreaded “work-out” regime. *Shudders*

Cute red haired kitten sleeping in hammock

I am not now, nor have I ever been, one of these folks that “likes” to work out. I’m not even one of these people that will “willingly” work out. You put a gun to my head, I’m going to keep eating that chocolate cupcake and flip you off. I do not work out. Ever. Nope, not even a little. That stuff is for the birds!

Okay, now I can’t recall what the point of my post was today. Did I even have a point? Maybe not… Hm, all right then. Well, anyway… The weekend should be lovely, lots of sun before next week which according to everyone has the “S” word mentioned in it. In September no less. I am NOT a happy camper about that. Oh, I have all the necessary bits and pieces to survive such a thing should it occur. But not even in Canada should one need to start using, let alone dig any of it out, until at least October. Preferably after our Thanksgiving.

Oh well, maybe I’ll get a bunch of writing done. That sounds like a stellar plan. Especially since all the other household chores have been completed already today. Sit back, watch some movies while I write, definitely sounds like I have a plan going.

To that end, I hope you all have a fantastic evening, and weekend ~ Moira

It’s Friday!

SmileySo happy the weekend is here. Ahhhh! It’s been a long, strange, hectic, annoying sort of week at the evil day job. But now I have a whole three days where I can solely focus on writing. Yup, three days. All the household chores have been completed, and except for the occasional venture out into the real world for resupplying whatever I might need to keep me going, I have no other plans.

I am not, nor have I ever been a camper. Even if I were I would not go over a long weekend, they are predestined to end badly – Mother Nature has your number campers. My version of camping is a two star hotel, in the boonies, without a coffee maker in the room to get me going in the mornings. I despise bugs, disdain dirt, and dread sleeping on the ground. Which, with my bad back, is just a recipe for ending up at my chiropractors for weeks on end undoing two nights out “roughing it”. Thank you, but no thank you. Those who enjoy camping, may you have open roads before you, no screaming children next to you, and may your beer remain cold.

I shall stay at home, with my running hot water, my very pricey and plush bed, and all the other wondrous comforts of home. It’s also where the Wifi, and electricity is, which is a hell of a lot more conducive to ensuring I get writing done. Ha! Look at that, a nice little circle back around.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, no matter how long or short it might be. I have characters to manipulate into some sort of a cohesive state. ~ Moira

First in a series…

dangeroustimes1sComing this Thursday Dangerous Times, is the first book of the C&M Security series. I’m very excited about this series, it’s my first one, and it’s also a slightly different take for me on a romantic story. It’s got mystery, it’s got danger, and it’s got some good old fashioned heat.

In book one we get to meet the delightfully adorable, Tamara Phillips. She’s a photographer who lives on her caffeinated beverages and hates mornings. Okay, I admit, those two traits are all me. Gotta put a little of yourself into your works, right? She meets up again with the sinfully sexy, Shawn Camden. He’s co-owner in C&M Security – the “C” if you need a hint as to how I came up with the name of his company.

I had a lot of fun writing this first book in the series. It was a great stretch of my abilities to try something new. Never having done anything with a bit of mystery behind it, and keeping the “big secret” actually a secret to the end, was definitely a challenge. So many times I caught myself giving something away that I knew would just ruin the effect I was attempting to create.

Thankfully my editor, the wonderfully talented Laurie Temple, was on my side of keeping the “secret” a secret. Normally not identifying a key character is a no-no, but in this case it was necessary to assist in leading the reader along just so. Then, at the end, WHAM! Big reveal. I also have to give a shout out to the talented cover artist who does all the Evernight Publishing covers, Sour Cherry Designs did a fantabulous job on the cover for this – so thanks!

That’s it for tonight I think, I have writing to do, characters to mess with, and a plot to twist up into knots. ~ Moira

Sunny Saturday…

It’s actually sunny out there, not kidding in the least! It’s a miracle really, given I was starting to feel like I was living in Vancouver (hehe!) after the last couple of weeks of nearly constant rain, and drizzle. I love my neighbors to the West, but seriously, keep the rain over there. Those of us living right across the Rockies are still feeling a little twitchy from last year over anything more than a couple hours of rain.

If I didn’t feel like such a pile o’ shit right now, I think one of my co-workers gave me her cold, I’d be out enjoying it. Instead I’ve been cleaning furiously in an effort to sweat some of it out. Now that I’ve exhausted myself though I think I shall write for a while before I go shopping. Nothing exciting though, just some food for my relatively bare fridge. Not bare-bare, but definitely lacking more than a few beverages, bread, butter and eggs. Need something for dinner, something with a bit of substance, maybe a nice thick and juicy steak. Oh god that sounds good! Of course, if I’m still feeling crappy when I go shopping I’ll likely just get a bunch of comfort foods instead, lol! It’s always that way.

On the writing front I’m stuttering through a bit of C&M Security book 3. I’ve been playing around with getting my hero and heroine back into town to confront the bad guy after they made a necessary, and strategic, retreat to recover from what he’d done. Now I need to get them back onto the playing field, quickly, so that this guy goes down – hard. Not really sure how I’m going to do this, but we’ll see. I’ve got a few ideas that I’ve been playing through, seeing how they’ll come to a conclusion. So far only two really seem to work, but I’m not really sure if it fits them. Oh well, it’ll work out, always does.

GOT-24

I think that’s it from me. I’m going to watch a bit of backlogged TV – Games of Thrones and 24 – while I write. Maybe I’ll be hit by some inspiration ~ Moira

Need to play catch-up

I only took three days off, but damn did it throw me behind the proverbial ball. Today was shot too since I had other things that needed doing, like getting my hair cut, doing laundry, and reading everything in my inbox and off of Facebook in an attempt to get caught up on all the latest.

Did a bit of writing as well, since I’m three days behind on that too. Didn’t get quite as much as I’d have liked done, but I’m back in the groove of things so that’s a major plus. This weekend, on top of a number of other things, have totally thrown my schedule for getting book three of the C&M Security series submitted. Not going to stress on it though. No reason to, and it doesn’t do a damn lick of good either.

Had a good visit with the family though. It was actually pretty relaxing in comparison to some of my other trips to see them. A very nice change actually. Though my mother still won’t let me sleep in to what I term an “acceptable time”. She does it on purpose, I know this, yet every single morning I’m still awoken way earlier than I’d like and my nerves are shot for a good four or five hours. The woman has it down to a science. Likely had to, given what a deep sleeper I am.

I have a couple of shows I need to catch up on, one of which apparently has had it’s season finale apparently. Since I’m also a couple shows behind, on the same series, I’ve been studiously avoiding any and all mention of anything in relation online. Never realized just how damn hard that was until this one, lol!

In other news I think I might just have a concept for a new stand alone. Not sure, but we’ll see. I was jotting notes down on the trip back last night so we’ll just have to wait and find out if it’s something my brain will actually want to write. Only real issue is, I’m not entirely sure what all my notes mean. There are a couple that, at the time they obviously made perfect sense, yet in the light of a new day don’t mean shit! LOL! Oh, dear. Well, maybe it’ll come back to me when I eventually get around to it. I have other stories to write first before I get too caught up in that.

pacific-rim-poster-banner-053013

I think that’s it for tonight. I have a B movie I have saved on my PVR that I plan to watch tonight. “Pacific Rim” for anyone that’s wondering. It’s got Charlie Hunnam in it, which was reason enough to record it for later viewing. I honestly don’t remember it so I’ll have to see how “bad” it really is. So, if anyone’s seen it – don’t tell me. I don’t mind some of the B movies honestly. There are some though, the made for TV so-called B movies (they aren’t B, they are not that high up in the alphabet) that I cannot stand. We shall just have to see where this one falls.

Have a good night ~ Moira

Sunday scribbles

Since the weather outside is rather frightful I’ve decided to hide out indoors where it’s warm and there’s coffee. Thankfully there doesn’t appear to be any more snow falling. Yet. Though, if the weather person’s to be believed, there will be more coming. So much for getting a good Spring for once. Ugh!

On the other hand, because it’s so craptacular outside I can stay in and write. Which good, cause that’s where the coffee is. And since I have to do a few household chores I can do those during my stretch breaks. Yes, I take stretch breaks, otherwise I get all tense and hunched over. Not good. But when you’re in the groove, writing like mad, you assume whatever position works best to get the words out as fast as possible.

Since my paranormals have been giving me grief, nasty little buggers, I’m working on book two of my other series. Book one comes out in June, date to be decided. I figure if I get this one done up quick enough I just might have one for July. Be nice to keep a regular publishing schedule for the readers I’m hoping to collect.

Oh, that sounds bad, lol! But I’m sure you get my meaning and that I meant absolutely no disrespect. Readers are the ones that make or break authors. Well, them and reviewers but I haven’t had to deal with reviewers yet so one worry at a time.

Well, I think that’s all for the moment, I’m off and running. ~ Moira

Hello you gorgeous

Friday you! Long time no see. Where the hell have you been hiding you sexy beast? Guess it doesn’t really matter, you came back and, really, that’s what truly matters. And you brought your friend the weekend along with you! Perfect.

With it being the weekend I figure I’ll do a bunch of writing in between the usual household chores that are a must each week. And I think too, since I know my first release is coming up in the next month, that I shall turn my mind to what to do for this first release. It is epic, of course, firsts always are. So I will need to do something epic to memorialize it. Not the first clue yet what, but I will rack my brain and pick my friends too as she’s done this once or twice…or so.

So yeah, that’s where I’m at this slightly overcast and mildly chilly Friday evening. But, I have a bit of time yet – still have to see edits before I truly panic – so I will let the ideas mull around and go from there. Until then ~ Moira

Holy mother

Of a brain fry! Damn it. How can one persons brain be so cooked and exhausted? Mine brain is like mush, soggy mush at that.

I was doing well until the caffeine started to clear my system. Obviously I should’ve had that extra XL coffee today, lol! But I didn’t, I resisted the seductive lure of the caffeinated beverage and now am paying the price. It’s not even nine and I’m ready to crawl into bed.

But, I am resisting that siren’s lure as well, otherwise I’ll be up at some ungodly early hour of the morning. I don’t do the butt crack of dawn well, especially on weekends. Those are my days to sleep in, to relax and to just vegetate. Though I will have to do some laundry I fear. Otherwise I will have to wear my jammies to work all next week. Which, in my mind isn’t a bad thing. But the boss frowns on that shit. Which, given his wardrobe, he really shouldn’t be casting stones.

So yes, sleeping in, laundry and some writing I think is the plan for the weekend. Which, given how nasty ass cold it’s supposed to be, is a damned fine plan by me. No way in hell am I going out of doors unless it’s an absolute emergency. In other words, if I run out of Pepsi, I’m going out in that nasty shit come hell or high waters.

But I might be slightly addicted to the Pepsi. Thankfully there are no AA sort of meetings around here for Pepsi drinkers lol! Otherwise I might be guilted into attending. Doubtful, but you never know.

And now that I’ve totally been rambling on for a good ten minutes, I’m going to find something to watch for an hour and then crashing for the night. ~ Moira

TGIF!

So happy it’s Friday!

I live for Friday’s, that means I have two uninterrupted days to write and do whatever the hell I want. Did laundry already so all I really have to worry about first thing tomorrow is a bit of cleaning.

And, major bonus, it’s supposed to warm up tomorrow! YAY! I can get out and do some shit finally without worrying about freezing something important off. Which, really, I’ve been worrying about a lot in the last few weeks. Though, I will honestly admit, I haven’t had it nearly as bad as some places in Canada. Some places have set record lows. That is not now, nor ever, a fucking record you want to set!

So, what’s the writing game plan for the weekend? Not a clue but I do know that I need to get something new started. It’s either that or sit around and drive myself crazy waiting to hear from the publisher I sent my first book in to.

Well, I think that about does it, I’m off to watch a movie. Night ~ Moira
