Happily plotting

It’s Saturday, a bit overcast, but quite pleasantly warm. So I figured I’d set up out on my balcony to write for a while. Fresh air, sounds of the city around me, and just enough sun not to freeze to death. It was an awesome plan. Got a lot of writing done on the new C&M Security book. Book three for those keeping track. Got just over 3500 words down on the page and already my lead female character is in shit up to her eyeballs.

Unlike the other books so far in this series, this one my lead character is heading straight into danger, willingly I should mention. She’s a police detective so that’s kind of her gig. Unfortunately for my leading gal, no one actually has much of a clue as to just who they are going up against, who they are rescuing her from. Neither did she until it was too late. Much too late.

Muahahaha! Yeah, I’m evil. I just LOVE putting characters into precarious positions and then trying to figure out how to dig them out. I do a bit of plotting ahead of time, more or less enough to know what the bad guy is after -his ultimate goal- but let the characters guide the story for a good portion of it. I like seeing where they pull things, often it’s to places I never would have been able to think up sitting there staring at a blank word doc.

I’m not saying that where they pull me is always the best place. Hell no! For instance, in book two of this same series, my lead male character nearly had him and those he was with, doing something highly questionable, and very illegal. I had to kibosh that right quick. Can’t be having any of that, especially since that isn’t who they are at their core. While the staff of C&M Security might play a little loose and free with the law, they can’t break it. So, after a knuckle whack or three, I got them back on track with a slightly less dramatic, but much better for the overall storyline, path. They were happy, no criminal records or jail time, and I was happy, no supporting of illegal activities just because you can. Don’t need to be setting that sort of precedent.

Now, had I written about a thief, totally different standards there. I can’t write about a thief that never steals anything, that would go against who I was writing and the story I was creating. But these guys work with law enforcement so, bending a little is okay, outright breaking is very, very bad.

Well, that’s enough of a break, back to writing now. Need to see if I can make about 5k words before dinner. Have a good day everyone ~ Moira

Time’s a draggin’

Ugh. It’s a long weekend up here in Canada this weekend. But it’s taking so-o-o-o long to get here! Why? Oh why couldn’t it have been Friday already? Ugh.

I desperately need one of these. One where I’m not dashing out of town to help out the parents. One where I can just be in my jammies all the time and to hell with any need to go outside. One where I might actually get all my cleaning done early so I can enjoy the entire time stress and worry and anything else free. Ah, now there’s a lovely thought.

In other news I’m getting close on my WIP. I hit a speed bump a few days ago and had to do a fix to get it rolling again. I don’t know what I was thinking trying to write while utterly exhausted, not very smart at all. I do not write well when my brain is mush. But! I’m back on track once more and it’s going well once more. I might be a smidge behind my original schedule for completion but I don’t think it will be by much. Finish it up this weekend, do a little polishing and the ever important spell check and then submit.

I may end up waiting until Tuesday to submit, the Monday being the official holiday here, but other than that I shouldn’t be more than a day behind on my “plan”. Ha! Like I really ever have a plan lol! Well, I think that’s it. Sushi is on the menu tonight so I’m outta here folks ~ Moira

A sunny Sunday

What a lovely day! It’s gorgeous out there. I really should go out and enjoy some of that sunshine, it’s so rare these days that it’s a shame to waste it. And, besides all that, I really need to hit the store for a few things to make it through the coming week. Food people, get your minds out of the gutter. Although, I can’t blame you, mine would have gone there so fast the rest of ya’ll would have had whiplash lol!

In other news… Tax season is once again over in my household. GAH! I hate doing taxes. I really do. And it’s only going to get even more complicated now that I’ll have a second income coming in with my writing. Oh lord, maybe I should hit the liquor store while I’m out too, I may need it after that thought truly settles in.

Onto much happier thoughts though! I’ve created a Facebook group for my writing and the readers that will (hopefully) be anxiously awaiting the next book. Yes, I dream big, sue me. Actually, no, wait! Don’t sue me, I’m broke, I did mention just doing my taxes right? See, no money! Not a dime. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Nary a penny to rub together – if I still had pennies that is.

Anyway, back into line brain, the group is called Moira’s Maidens. But really, anyone can join. The group address is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/297960527024072/ so feel free to join up and invite others to join. There will be behind the scenes information before my books come out, there will be special exclusive contests and, if I’m feeling really generous, I’ll even share my cookies too.

Well, that’s all I got today. So I am going to venture out into the sunlight and hopefully not blind anyone with my pasty winter flesh as the light hits it. Have a lovely Sunday ~ Moira

Happy Hump Day!

Thank goodness it’s mid-week. I don’t know why but this week has been terribly exhausting! Of course, the weather isn’t helping any either, Mother Nature appears to be off her meds or something because she’s extremely indecisive about what crap to dump on us. Thankfully the snow prediction has been removed (WOOHOO!). But now it sounds like there’s to be rain.

That’s good, some water is a good thing, everything’s so damned dusty right now a bit of rain to wash it away would be welcome. Especially for me (and all others with allergies) as I’m allergic to dust. And it’s damn dusty right now. On the plus side it might help to green things up too which, given how grey and dismal everything is, would be a welcome change for sure.

In other news, lol!, I started my new book. The paranormal ménage one that is, just for clarity. I decided to start with trouble looming, felt it was the right move for this series and would help to set the tone. Unfortunately my damn characters are a little hesitant about speaking up and giving me the goods. Assholes, one and all I tell you! LOL!

I’m not actually all that concerned as I’m still trying to figure out my core theme to the series. I’ve played with a few ideas but I have found that I seem to be leaning to tried and true too much. I want something new, different, unusual. But since I’m that kind of girl (different and unusual I mean) I have to have my stories follow the same guideline. So, for the time being, it is slow going as I slowly figure out just where this series might, possibly, be going.

I think that’s about it, don’t want to bore you all horribly with my random mutterings. So I will bid you adieu for tonight ~ Moira

Happy Easter!

Since I will be sans-computer this weekend (I know, it’s horrible!), I thought I would send this out now. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and gets to eat way too much chocolate. I plan on indulging, heavily, since I won’t have a computer (ARGH!) and am really hoping it helps to keep me from wigging out.

Not placing any bets there, but I’m hopeful. I will be with my family and, while I love them all, they drive me to drink. Often.

In other news, just sent off the cover form for my latest accepted book by Evernight. This is the one that will be out in June. It is (tentatively) titled: Dangerous Times, C&M Security. It is book one of a five book series I currently have planned. There will be four books and then a prequel that will come out either part way through the series or right at the end. Not sure how I plan on mucking up your reading list yet but I will do it in a way that has you twitching. Promise.

I think that’s about it. I have a few things yet to finish getting ready for my early morning (ugh!) departure. So I think I will go do that, veg in front of the TV for a little while and then hit the sack. Good night, have a marvellous weekend, and I’ll see you on the flip side. ~ Moira

Great news

Tonight, I just got an acceptance for my second story. Holy crap! So quick too, I’m stunned and more than a little flustered. Excited and stunned. Wowza!

LOL! So I’m have a great Monday now, earlier…m’eh, not so much. It was kind of a crummy day at work, the whole having to go really sucked and then they actually insisted I had to stay! WTF! Don’t they know I could be doing much more interesting things? But, the point is, it started crummy and then I open my email after dinner and got an awesome surprise! Made it all better with just a few words.

On another note

**** SPOILER ALERT ****

I am a HUGE GoT (Game of Thrones) fan. I don’t know about anyone else but, because I a) have a PVR and b) taped it, I have been watching the final scenes over and over and over. It was most joyous to see how the very best thing to ever happen on the show to happen.

Last warning if you haven’t seen it!

JOFFREY IS DEAD!! WOOT! O.M.G! Finally! That little shit (great actor, pulled it off with true skill) had it coming. Pretty much from day one of his reign, he needed to be put down. That the writer waited this long… grrrr! Only thing I feel bad for is that now Tyrion has the finger being pointed at him by his psychotic sister Cersei.

Anyway, that’s all I have for tonight. I’m going to go and watch the scene a few more times. The gurgles are the very best part… ~ Moira

It really

Doesn’t get any easier the second time around. Submitting I mean. I just submitted my second story to the publisher. A wee bit different from the first book I wrote and submitted. It’s definitely harder edged with a lot of danger and (if I did it right) undercurrents through the story line.

Not sure if it will get picked up but I’m hopeful. I have a few more books planned for the series so we’ll see how the first is received before I worry too much about the others.

But, now it’s out of my hands for the moment. Which means that, in theory, I can relax and go onto other projects. In theory. Not sure how that will work but I do have a few things I need to do so I shall turn my mind to those projects while the stuff I can’t control goes about it’s business way out of my hands. Cause that just sounds like so much fun, lol!

It’s been a pretty good weekend here. A little chilly yesterday with some overcast but today is looking marvellous. Lots of sun and almost zero breeze so the heat is actually reaching our pasty flesh to help thaw us out from the cold that was winter. A very welcome and definite change. But I’m not holding my breath that it’s here to stay. I’ve lived here too long to think that we won’t see at least one last winter squall roll through. Which, considering we haven’t even hit May yet, would be pretty much a bungee jump without checking you’re hooked to anything.

So maybe I will go out and soak in some UV rays. Have a good day everyone ~ Moira

Holy crapballs,

I think Mother Nature is PMSing here in the west! I came home in a light snowfall (aka, the occasional flake drifting by) and now, 40 minutes later its a damned blizzard out there. Someone get that woman some Midol damn it!

On the other hand it’s Wednesday, happy hump day everyone, which means we’re on the slide down to the weekend. Only two more days, only two more days, only two more days. Thank goodness. If I have to deal with one more moron that can’t get the simplest of concepts through their thick skull I might just have to go freaky on their asses. And, trust me, it never ends well for them or anyone within the sphere of the freak. Course, it does make me feel better…at least until I have to do clean up.

In other news, the story number two is going along well. Broke through the 20k mark at some point last night. Gave me a giddy little thrill to be honest. But I know I’m in the home stretch as soon as I have the big confrontation for what I’ve been building up to. Still a little unsure which way I’m going with the big blow out. I have two options for how it can go, just need to decide which will be the biggest twist to throw the readers for a loop. Decisions, decisions, decisions…

Oh well, that will be later. Tonight I’m catching up on what I’ve DVR’ed ~ Moira

Another chilly

Saturday, oh and it’s pretty damn gloomy too. Heavy cloud coverage, nasty little wind and it’s definitely looking like it just might snow again. Ick!

At least it’s the weekend and I’m inside. Writing to be specific actually. After sleeping in until my poor body actually felt rested. Though I am considering the idea of a nap. Ah, the joys of being an adult, lol! You can nap whenever you want – except at work, bosses frown on this stuff apparently – and doing what you want when you want. That and bills and other “responsible” crap that comes with the “adult” title.

I’m making pretty good headway on my latest WIP. Up and over the 10k word mark so I’m very happy. And it’s still coming along nicely and quite strong. Which is great, but my head is having ideas faster than my fingers can keep up – don’t you just hate that? I do as well, to a degree, but I’m writing all the little ideas down as I go so I don’t forget them. Not sure if I’ll actually use them in this story or in the next one or something else entirely. Who knows. I’m just glad my head is giving me a bunch of stuff, it’s kinda nice actually, especially given how quiet the voices were during the week. Not surprising really, I was too damned tired to write during the week – that’s what happens when you work for a slave driver of a boss.

Well, I have more coffee in hand and more to write so I’m out of here. Chat later ~ Moira

Lazy Sunday

Just writing away. Not much else on my plate today so I figured I’d do a little writing. Which turned into a lot of writing. Apparently my characters had something to say to me and the world. They are being surprisingly cooperative. Which is a huge bonus I find. Much better than when I have to twist their arms or water board them to get what I want.

The one I’m working on today is something different, a potential series – maybe. It has the prospect anyway but I’m not worrying about any book two or three along the same lines, not yet. Gotta get this one out of my head first before I do something silly like thinking about others. But it’s going pretty well – up to 8600 words in three days of writing it. Well, only if you count yesterday when I went back and did some alterations to my antagonist. Had to make him a little scummier than he was coming off. And, I’m not sure, but I may have overdone it just a smidge. He is definitely not someone any reader will like.

Been pounding away at it today for about two-thirds of the word count, it’s doing that well. I do so love when it just flows, makes me a much happier writer. But now I have numb bum syndrome and need to get up and off the computer for a while. Which is okay, I’ve reached a good spot that I can do that at. And who knows what will pop into my head as I run around doing errands all in an attempt to regain feeling in my lower extremities, lol!

Hope you’re all having a great Sunday ~ Moira
